Dear RBHS Colleagues:
This morning the Robert Wood Johnson Health System and Barnabas Health formally signed an agreement to merge the two health systems. The new entity will be known as RWJ Barnabas Health and will be the largest health system in New Jersey and one of the largest systems in the country. The agreement now goes to the New Jersey Attorney General for review with final regulatory approval of the merger anticipated in 2016.
The inaugural president of RWJ Barnabas Health will be Barry Ostrowsky, the current President & CEO of Barnabas Health. Steven Jones, the President & CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Health System will serve as the new Chief Academic Officer of the system.
As RWJ Barnabas Health, the merged health system will maintain the academic partnership originally formed with Rutgers University and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This agreement presents Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences with new opportunities for academic, clinical, and research collaborations under the new RWJ Barnabas Health umbrella. We are looking forward to these discussions and continuing our progress in becoming one of the nation’s premier academic health centers.
