Dear RBHS Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Vicente Gracias, MD as Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH). Dr. Gracias has been working with RWJBH as Interim Chief Academic Officer, since this past January.
As CAO, Dr. Gracias’ primary responsibility will be to provide executive oversight of the education mission of our academic health system. In this role, Dr. Gracias will lead the strategic planning for undergraduate and graduate medical education conducted at RWJBH teaching hospitals, as well as those educational components of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences including Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He will also continue to serve as Chair of the Health Education Executive Council, ensuring our medical and health professions students receive training in teaching environments that will equip them for future success.
As an extension of our partnership efforts with RWJBH, Dr. Gracias will report to Barry Ostrowsky through John Bonamo, MD, Chief Medical and Quality Officer at RWJBH. For his ongoing roles at Rutgers, Dr. Gracias will continue to report to me.
Dr. Gracias continues to serve as Professor of Surgery, Senior Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs of RBHS and Vice President of Health Affairs for Rutgers University. In these roles, Dr. Gracias has helped lead the development of the RWJBH-Rutgers Master Affiliation Agreement during this time of systemic change in health care. Additionally, Dr. Gracias has served as President of Rutgers Health Group, the Rutgers interprofessional practice, which is now being planned for integration with RWJBH practices into a new combined group.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Gracias, as we continue to enhance and integrate our important teaching mission across RWJBH and Rutgers University.
Brian L. Strom, MD, MPH
