Remembering David M. Gibson

Dear RBHS Community Members,

It is with sorrow that I write to inform you of the passing of Dr. David M. Gibson, a renowned educator, inspirational mentor, cherished colleague, and former dean of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Health Related Professions (SHRP).

Dean Gibson joined SHRP in 1976, just two years after it was founded. There he served in many roles before he was named to succeed founding Dean John P. Martin in 1990. Dean Gibson guided the school through a period of tremendous growth through to his retirement in 2008. During his 18 years of leadership, the SHRP raised its academic profile, expanded academic programs, and increased student enrollment.

Dedicated to the advancement of interprofessional collaboration in the health professions, Dean Gibson was also a nationally recognized leader who served as president of both the New Jersey Society of Allied Health Professions and the nation-wide Association of Schools Advancing Health Professionals.

A tribute to Dean Gibson will be shared on the School of Health Professions website in the coming days. Service information is available by viewing this remembrance webpage

Our thoughts are with Dean Gibson’s family and colleagues as we remember and reflect on the significant impact of his legacy in the health professions in New Jersey and nationally.
