Dear RBHS Colleagues:
Last December, we launched the first ever Chancellor’s Scholarship Challenge, which provided $1M in funds to be used to match gifts to scholarship at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) during calendar year 2018. This initiative, a partnership between the RBHS development team, the Dean's office at RWJMS, and my office, has been a great success. To date, we have raised over $1.4M from donors for RWJMS scholarships, which will be matched by resources I have dedicated to this challenge. This brings the total dollars raised, including match funds, to over $2.4M in support of scholarships at RWJMS in 2018. This challenge has brought in significant support for scholarship at RWJMS, which we know will make medical education more accessible and affordable for our students. It has also helped us engage new and returning donors, and I thank all faculty and staff who participated in and helped make this challenge a success. In addition to the dollars raised, the 2018 Chancellor's Challenge resulted in our engaging over 100 new donors to Rutgers. These are individuals who had never before made a philanthropic gift to any area of the University, but who chose to make their first gift in support of our medical school students.
This year, I am pleased to announce that the Chancellor’s Scholarship Challenge will be hosted by two schools – Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) and Rutgers School of Nursing (RSON), with up to $1,000,000 in total matching funds available to the two schools. I am confident that the partnership between the RBHS development office, the faculty and staff of both schools, and our generous donors will result in yet another successful year of fundraising in support of our students.
Thank you again to all those who helped make the 2018 Chancellor’s Scholarship Challenge a success. I look forward to seeing this challenge achieve continued success for RSDM and RSON in 2019.
